Pola Nirenska was a renowned Polish dancer and choreographer, born as Pola Nirensztajn in 1910. She gained prominence in the 1930s for her modern dance performances, which received critical acclaim in several European countries, including Austria, Germany, Italy, and Poland. However, her rising career was cut short due to the increasing antisemitism in the continent, forcing her to flee in 1935.

In 1949, she emigrated to the United States and settled in Washington, D.C., where she established herself as a leading figure in the city's modern dance scene. Until her death in 1992, Nirenska was widely recognized as the city's premier choreographer and performer of modern dance, leaving a lasting legacy in the world of dance.
