Solomon Stramer
Solomon Stramer was a prominent figure in the Yiddish theater scene, notably leading a troupe based in Cluj, Romania. Founded in Vienna, Austria, the troupe relocated to Cluj in 1919 and remained active there until at least the late 1920s. Under Stramer's leadership, the troupe held a significant position in the region's cultural landscape.
Stramer's troupe enjoyed a period of exclusivity, holding the sole rights to perform Yiddish-language theater in Transylvania. This was a substantial privilege, given that the region was home to a sizable Jewish population of approximately 300,000 people during that time. As the leader of his troupe, Stramer played a key role in bringing Yiddish theater to this community, contributing to the cultural richness of the area.
