Gabriel Moked
Israeli literary critic, editor and philosopher (1933–2026)
Gabriel Moked was a prominent Israeli intellectual, renowned for his contributions to literary criticism, editing, philosophy, and writing. Born in 1933, he survived the Holocaust and went on to pursue a distinguished career in academia and publishing. As a philosopher, Moked's work spanned various disciplines, reflecting his diverse interests and expertise.
Moked's most notable role was as the long-time editor of the literary journal Achshav, a position he held from 1957 onwards. In addition to his editorial work, he was also a professor of philosophy at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. Through his work as a critic, editor, and philosopher, Moked left a lasting impact on Israeli literary and cultural circles, until his passing in 2026.
