historien néerlandais

Jules Schelvis was a Dutch Jewish historian, born in 1921, who dedicated his life to documenting and researching the Holocaust. As a survivor of the Sobibor extermination camp, Schelvis's personal experiences greatly influenced his work. He was the sole survivor of the 14th transport from Westerbork to Sobibor, a fate that was altered when he was selected to work at the nearby Dorohucza labour camp. This unique perspective allowed him to provide invaluable insights into one of the darkest periods in human history.

Schelvis's contributions to the field of history were widely recognized, and he was awarded several honors for his work. He received an honorary doctorate from the University of Amsterdam, as well as the Officier in the Order of Orange-Nassau and the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland. Through his memoirs and historical research, particularly on Sobibor, Schelvis left a lasting legacy that continues to educate and inform people about the Holocaust. He passed away in 2016, leaving behind a body of work that serves as a testament to his dedication to preserving the history of this pivotal event.
