Leni Alexander was a renowned German-Chilean composer, born in 1924, who made significant contributions to the world of music. Born Helene Sara Alexander Pollack, she escaped the Nazi regime in Germany in 1939 and sought refuge in Chile, where she would eventually settle and become a naturalised citizen in 1951. As a modernist composer, Alexander was at the forefront of experimental music in Chile, particularly in the realm of electronic music, where she was among the pioneers.

Throughout her career, Alexander was dedicated not only to creating music but also to promoting the rich cultural heritage of Chile and Latin America. She worked tirelessly to showcase Chilean and Latin American music in Europe, introducing new audiences to the unique sounds and styles of the region. In addition to her compositional work, Alexander was also committed to music education in Chile, developing and implementing various educational schemes to nurture the country's musical talent.
