Marilyn Golden

American disability rights activist (1954–2021)

Marilyn Golden was a prominent American disability rights activist, dedicating her career to advancing the rights of individuals with disabilities. Her work primarily focused on transportation, and she spent many years as a policy analyst at the Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund (DREDF). In this capacity, she utilized her expertise to drive policy changes that promoted accessibility and equality for people with disabilities.

Golden's extensive experience and commitment to disability rights led to her appointment to the U.S. Architectural and Transportation Barriers Compliance Board, where she served from 1996 to 2005. Prior to this, she held key roles at Access California, a resource center on architectural accessibility, and the Disabled International Support Effort, which supported disability organizations in developing nations. Throughout her career, Golden was a vocal advocate for the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and actively opposed assisted suicide legislation in several states, including California, Hawaii, and Vermont.
