Yitzchak Ratner
Nineteenth century mathematician
Yitzchak Ratner was a 19th-century Jewish mathematician who made notable contributions to the field. Despite being associated with the literary movement of the Jewish Enlightenment, his work primarily focused on mathematical and astronomical topics. He penned various articles on these subjects for several journals, demonstrating his expertise and interest in the scientific community.
Ratner's written works include Mishpat Emet, published in 1884, which presented a critical analysis of Lichtenfeld's pamphlets that opposed Slonimski's works. Additionally, he played a significant role in preserving and promoting Slonimski's mathematical legacy by editing the second edition of Yesodei Chokmat ha-Shi'ur in 1898. This publication delved into the fundamental principles of algebra, showcasing Ratner's commitment to the dissemination of mathematical knowledge.
