Peter H. Brieger

Peter H. Brieger was a German art historian who fled to Canada in 1936 to escape the Nazi regime's persecution due to his Jewish heritage. Upon settling in Canada, he began a long-standing academic career at the University of Toronto, where he taught from 1936 to 1969. During his tenure, Brieger demonstrated exceptional leadership skills, serving as the Head of the Department of Fine Art from 1947 to 1964.

As a medievalist, Brieger's area of expertise lay in the study of 12th and 13th century manuscripts. His specialization in this field underscored his passion for the art and literature of the medieval period.
